Possibilities of laser application
ACSYS laser systems are excellently suitable for various types
of marking and engraving. Whereas during laser marking above
all flexibility, quality and the durability take precedence,
the laser engraving systems are marked by the possibility
of producing very filigree structures. Depending on the material
and the task, differing results can be achieved.
Processing of metal, carbides, ceramics
Tempering:
With iron-based alloys / steels and titanium,
through local warmth on the surface, a thin oxide film develops
which leads to the known tempering color. This process is
used in particular with redundant narrow tolerated components
(e.g. tools, bearing shells etc.) since this does not lead
to a change in the measurement of the part and at the same
time results in a very high-contrast and very legible marking.
Marking through material removal:
The thermal energy of the laser is used for targeted
melting away of the material and to vaporize so that a slightly
deepened (0.001…0.05mm) marking results. In doing
so, practically no warmth enters the part. Through suitable
selection of the laser parameter, a light marking (e.g.
on bronzed or anodized surfaces) or a dark marking full
of contrasts can be reached.
Engraving:
Similar as with the marking through the melting
away of material, also here the energetic laser pulse leads
to a melting and vaporizing of the material. Through several
repetitions, the desired engraving depth (0.05 to several
millimeters) can be varied.
3D-Engraving / Form engraving:
Through the use of suitable CAD/CAM software in
connection with a laser control which has been optimized
for this application as well as high-quality optical components,
highly precise 3D engravings can be produced with the laser.
This procedure is especially used if filigree structures
in forms, stamps or coinage stencils must be realized. In
comparison to eroding, here an economic advantage up to
factor 5 can be reached.
Processing of plastics
Significant for the marking of plastics with the ND: YAG
laser is its absorbing capacity which is determined by materials,
fillers and additives.
Marking through carbonizing:
The energy leads with light colored plastics to
a carbonization in the area of the pigments. In particular
the following plastics are suitable for this:
- PS
- PC
- PET
- ABS PBT
- PP
Marking through foaming:
Here the heat leads to a foaming of the plastic,
which then leads to a light marking of the material. Materials
for this:
- POM
- PA
Marking through photochemical induced processes:
Here there is a colored covering through color
changes on the laser pigment (additive) or on coloring
materials.
Processing of coated materials
The marking follows through the removal of a covering
coating (e.g. Eloxal, lacquer, and chrome layer) whereas
the color contrast results from the “lasering”
of the basic material. This is applied e.g. in the area
of the day/night design as well as with the production of
type plated of all kinds. The typical materials for these
applications are aluminum anodized, steel bronzed, lacquered
plastics or coated laser foils.
